What we do

Our postgraduate students are part of an inspiring and dynamic research community, and as a multilingual and multidisciplinary Centre we accommodate a wide range of thesis topics and approaches. Our students receive highly personalised supervision and support at every stage of their professional development, and play a major role in the Centre’s exciting annual programme of research seminars and international conferences. Our postgraduates can choose to base their studies in the Centre or to work as distance students – we are committed to good practice in research supervision so you can be sure of the best possible guidance in either case.

What are we looking for? New approaches and fresh perspectives underpin all graduate work, and recent students at the Centre have researched topics ranging from historical linguistics to Celtic revivalism, shipwrecks, translation, the history of stained glass, the history of place names, and travel writing in Wales and Scotland.

Our students have successfully moved on to careers within academia and related professions, such as conservation, curatorship, and commercial mapping.
